tutorial

first this is a tutorial on how to edit your ai images in canva to fit your story this tutorial starts with you having your images but as we know ai sometimes spits some stuff out you d like to change and it s hard to have continuity in ai and so perhaps this helps a little for those who illustrates like I do
So i have Fenris speaking with his sister at the ocean he is upset at her when she tells him she is pregnant
So in the image to the left they are much too cartoonish but I like the background and in the one to the right I like how Hilda his sister looks and well notice the AI for some reason made Fenris pregnant too yeah that is definitley for a different kind of story so
first i remove them both from the background I liked with the magical selection tool
I cut Hilda out in the other image with the same tool just select what you want and delete the background
Then I find a image where I think Fenris might fit both in style and expression and yeah it s not always exactly how you want it but with AI you take what you get
So I cut Fenris out with the magical selection tool and I move both to the background you can move them manually in the timeline at the bottom just drag the selections on top of the background I deleted the crow on Fenris shoulder with the magical eraser and flipped him to look the other way
you can size your selections by dragging the corners of them and so this was how it looked when I was sort of happy with how it looked but note that Hilda has a different more muted color we can fix that too
Select the image you want to change color filter of and look through the color filters if you find one that is perfect great but often you need to go into the ajustment to manually apply more shadow color coolness or whatever
And this is the finished version Ready to be implemented in your file
Now one thing Canva sucks at is edges like the edge of Fenris cloak but hey man it s just for fun no need to pretend it s not edited AI shit and also I could have removed the remains of the original background in Fenris hair I wasn t bothered because I just wasn t If you are you use the magical eraser with a very small tip to manually erase the unwanted bacground
It s not always this easy and I will show you one other version of this namely when the image needs to be enlarged to work
This is Fenris and Freki at a bonfire but Fenris looks way way too young in comparison to the other images I have used in the story so I need to remove him and find another fenris to make this image work So like above I removed Fenris with the magical selection tool but instead of deleting the background I deleted my selection And I found another image where Fenris is sitting at a bonfire with Hugin
Now I forgot to take a screenshot but if Fenris is to fit with Freki we need to add to him so we can move him up into the image and not sit at the bottom You do that with the magical enlargement tool and now the image has more ground under Fenris
use the magical selection tool on the new altered image and delete the background which will leave you with a new image which is ready to be added to the image you needed it for
And this is the finished image I do realise it s a different fenris but I made it the same way as I explained above this method also works for any other weird cut off
Frontpage
Okay so here is a quick suggestion to creating your own frontpage in Canva First I used the format called wattpad frontpage there are some layouts you can chose from but I decided to make one from scrap
I am not dead sure about Canvas TOS so you gotta look into that but I go from the old rule of thumb that you can use 3 store ready made items and call it yours but not more than that
So I searched the elements graphics for retro wallpaper and found this you can change the color and stuff but I liked it the way it was and so I secured it as background you rightclick to get that menu
Then I imported the image I wanted on the front and did as explained above I had to use the magic expansion tool because his hair cuts off weird and I don t want him to fill the entire frame
Speaking of the magic expansion tool it will give you 4 sometimes 3 or less possible versions you can click them to see them larger and if you hate them all you click the button below to generate a new batch
I then use the magic selection tool because it cuts out stuff nicer and cleaner than the remove background tool and deleted the background and now I can place my guy where I want him and resize him Fiddle with filters and whatever until he has the tone I want
And now for the text when you click the text editor you get a suggestion of different preset styles and to make it easy I just picked one of those you can change color on the text of course And speaking of one super neat thing Canva offers is when you click the color selector for the text you get a spectrum of the colors already in your project so you can keep a color scheme if you want to also when making a back side
And here we go the final product You can of course make it much much nicer this is just a simple how to use some of the tools in Canva
Signature
Now I did just use the normal text editor to write my signature on this mockup but I will show you another way one where you make a transparent version you can use over and over again So you can just add a page to your project and write your name choose a font you like and when you re happy about it hit share
You can add a graphic to it by selecting the magic media tool and chose graphic instead of image and type in something and chose your style I asked it to make me a star and selected the doodle This I added to my signature above
2 If you want to use this method you ought to make yourself two signatures one light and one dark because you can t change color on it in Canva not so it looks nice atleast
backside
so because you have the color scheme of your project if you click the color selector at the top bar it makes much easier to make something that fits I have to versions here one where I just duplicated my project and deleted all but the background image and one where I deleted everything and selected a color from my project
it is just a mockup and no that is not me its an image I made with AI in Canva using the Magic media tool Anyways if your background is busy I would make a background on the text and here I also used the color scheme
mockups
Canva has a mockup app just search mockup at the front and it will show up
the app gives you a bunch of stuff to choose from but a book mockup is located at the printable section so find one you like admitted the selection is limited but it is what it is
I selected a book and now download your finished cover to your phone or computer and upload it again to Canva this way it s a png not a project drag it from the uploads folder to the image with the cloud on the mockup and it will fit automatically looking like the image to your left
If you save it as a transparent PNG it will look like below
